'I snapped, and the room went silent': Bride-to-be kicks bachelorette party guest out of wedding after she and 13 guests spent $2k each on the trip

If you spend $2,000 to attend someone's bachelorette party, you'd better believe you'll also be at the wedding that follows. Plunking down that amount of cash to celebrate a friend is a huge decision! Some people spend that same amount just on their yearly vacation, so choosing a friend's bachelorette ceremony might replace that annual trip. Aside from the financial commitment, it shows how much you care about your bride-to-be friend. If you're doing all that for her, you must consider yourself a close confidant. 

This wasn't your average bach party where the bride flies like 6 of her closest GFs to Nashville for a week. No, this bride-to-be brought along no less than 13 friends! Most of them live about 6 hours away by car, and the bride claims this was an international trip to boot. All of this cost about $2k per attendee, which is a steep price to pay for one event. 

It wouldn't be a bachelorette party if there wasn't some drama! It seems like there's always at least one person who draws all the attention to herself, whether it's intentional or not, and this tends to bother the bride, who often wants all eyes on her. 

Interestingly, commenters were totally split on who was actually at fault here. Some blamed the bride for bringing so many people along, while others thought Rachel was being way too attention-seeking. At least you (usually) only get married once, so hopefully this person's days of planning out costly bachelorette parties are behind her.

    This person was 100% correct in their assessment

    Infinite Slide_5921 NTA, but I have a hard time being sympathetic to someone who has an international trip with 13 people for a bachelorette. You don't have 13 close friends. If you wanted a meaningful occasion, you should have kept it intimate. Going on vacation with a big group you aren't close too is asking for this kind of trouble.

    At the end of the day, it's the bride's choice, but it does probably mean that bridge is burnt for good.

    ktjbug Yta. Did it never once occur to you to say please stop. doing that versus asking other people to hint around it for you? You're about to get married. Start figuring out uncomfortable but direct communication before diving in on marital, in law, competing demands etc. This is so small scale.

Instead it seems like you were doing a mix of pouting and gossiping, insinuating she's a bad mother and letting girls who she didn't know and your FIANCÉ talk to her before you would.     sound like you're capable of handling conflict or having tough conversations and I hope that doesn't carry over into your marriage. It's either that or petty responses that still deteriorate it. Rachel sounds like a nightmare but I'm going to give her empathy. A new relationship can cause a lot of attention seeking behavior, subconsciously.

    And it sounds like she was the odd one out of the group of girls, and you failed to protect her or rein her in. I'm sure some of that behavior stemmed from being the least connected woman there and was a response to wanting to fit in and be "one of the girls" essentially.

    I understand the trip was about you and for you but Being that you are who reconnected with her and extended such a huge invitation, that was your job. Instead this just reads like a mean girl gang up on her.
